Liza L. Roys

Attorney Liza L. Roys is a native Houstonian. Her main focus at Matthews & Associates has been in clergy abuse, childhood sexual abuse, and IVC Filter litigation.

Education & Legal Experience

Ms. Roys graduated from the prestigious Episcopal High School in Bellaire, Texas. She earned her Political Science Bachelor of Science, with a minor in Psychology, at Texas Christian University in Forth Worth, Texas. At TCU, she was a part of the Political Science Distinction program, where she wrote her thesis on growing bipartisanism in the United States. She was also a member of the philanthropic fraternity Kappa Kappa Gamma (Epsilon Alpha Chapter).

She earned her Doctor of Jurisprudence at the University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) in Houston, Texas. While at UHLC Ms. Roys was a member of the Interscholastic Moot Court Competition Team, an appellate advocacy program analyzing and arguing both sides of a legal issue before a panel of judges. As a member she participated in the Southern Illinois University National Health Law Competition (2017), which focused on the issue of preemption and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Ms. Roys also joined the Houston Business and Tax Law Journal in 2016. She was elected to serve as Chief Articles Editor for the 2017-2018 publication. As CAE, she supervised all editing practices and assignments for new members acting as articles editors. Her peers selected her as Board Member of the Year in 2018.

In the summer of 2016, Ms. Roys clerked for the Honorable Judge Frances Stacy in the Southern District of Texas Federal Court. She began clerking at Matthews & Associates Law Firm in January of 2017, and continued working at the firm throughout her law school career.
